A cross-functional iOS team (PM/UR/UX/Marketing/Engineering) completed a week long design sprint to explore new possibilities around the concept of private browsing for the mobile browser. UX took emerging, tested concepts and created a new round of prototype solutions based on those findings.
This in-product message experiment showed that a one-time message makes no difference for users' settings uncertainty. Messages tested included a promo of privacy tools and features, an assurance of 'privacy by default', a promo of the mobile browser, and a no-message control.
4 surveys totalling over 14,000 desktop Firefox users show that 'task completion' and 'information seeking' trade off as the most common use case, followed by entertainment, with education and communication in distant last.
